Where I Stand On The

Issues

Focused on the issues that matter to Frederick County

  • Affordability

    Increase availability of Affordable Housing

    Support agriculture and food assistance

    Fight Regressive Tax Policies

  • Affordable Quality Health Care for All

    MEDICARE For All

I support MEDICARE FOR ALL.  If we cannot achieve that on the Federal level, Maryland should establish an equivalent program at the state-level — Maryland MEDICARE For All.

    Train More Health Care Providers

ACA has provided insurance to more people.  We need more Providers to match the increase in insured population.  We should train more Doctors, Nurses, and other Practitioners at Maryland Universities and Colleges tuition-free, provided they agree to treat patients in Maryland after graduation.

Improved quality of care in Frederick County

We need a second hospital in Frederick County to accommodate continued growth. University-based care at University of Maryland and Johns Hopkins University Hospitals is superior to care provided in Frederick County.  We should leverage the educational programs and evidenced-based treatment methods used in University hospitals through partnerships and or by regulation if needed.

    Increase Mental Health Care availability

While there have been improvements in access to crisis care in Frederick County, there are not sufficient mental health care providers to provide ongoing routine care to all who need it. We need to set conditions so that we can address mental health issues proactively, rather than only addressing issues when a crisis occurs.

  • Affordable Housing For All

    Rent Stabilization

During this period of increasing housing costs, renters need predictability to manage the cost of housing.  Stabilization is not Rent Control where no increases are allowed, but will limit rent increases to the level of inflation with exceptions for when there is a need for a large capital expense.

    Build more Affordable Housing

We should end the buy-out loophole which developers use to avoid building affordable housing, and keep it closed.

    Streamline the Permitting Process

We should streamline the permitting process, focusing on affordable housing. We will need to work with developers to add more affordable housing stock.  Developers may be part of the problem with the lack of affordable housing, but they will need to be part of the solution.  I have pledged not to accept corporate donations, so I will not take money from developers, but I will talk with them to find solutions.

    Public Housing

We need to increased funding for more public housing. When the private sector is unable to meet the needs of citizens, the government must do so.
